Oz Clarke and James May ~ Oz and James's Big Wine Adventure California BBC2 8.00pm Tuesday 27th November 07
Second Series, eight programs in California. My gift ideas
Program Five ~ Zinfandel and San Francisco.
Off to fog city and the history of Californian wine ~ prohibition and vineyards over 100 years old.
Oz with his typical insights, reveals a facinating fact, that the Zinfandel grape is "the heart and soul of American winemaking" and his revelation is that this grape, its production and its appeal conveys the story of American wine making.
Zinfandel made its way north preceeding the Gold Rush and survived the era of prohibition, with smart wine producers offering it as a sacramental wine.
Such a plentiful wine in California.
