Jamie Oliver is at his best when he is on a campaign. He has found a great idea in his Ministry of Food. As far as retro goes, Jamie has it in spades. Look back and invent the future, yes what an inspired man Jamie is. We are so fortunate to have him as an ambassador for cooking and food. A true brit, in the traditional style.
I think Jamie is prescient is his choice of campaign and the timing of his battle with bad food. The UK is on the brink of a fat epidemic and we are all ignoring the truth of how we are making ourselves ill. Buying prepackaged foods that while they represent the best of what can be prepared and sold, inevitably leads to us consuming high amounts of sugar, salt and bad fats. Many ingredients are their to keep the food good, to add flavour and meet our palate for sugar and salt.
The trouble is we are way off base in terms of what we should be eating. Why, off base? Because we are all getting fatter, many of us are suffering from high blood pressure, supposedly down to unkown causes? Too much fat in our bodies, too much weight and poor health all down to what we eat.
So thanks to Jamie who wants us to cook for ourselves, use vegetables and fruits and eat fresh high quality food. By watchng what we eat, we can lower weight, improve our health dramatically and enjoy life more. The saying 'you are what you eat' is not just refering to our physical bodies, but 'food affects mood' as well. Heal yourselves before you get a problem that is harder to overcome, like cancer or heart trouble. OK eat what you like in your youth, no health worries, but what happens as we age? What are we building up in our arteries? It is easier to avoid these illnesses now than try to undo damage later on. If food can help, why not get into the kitchen, cook with friends, have a ball!
Well done Jamie!!
